rain

Liptovská Mara is a reservoir on the Váh river in the Liptov basin of northern Slovakia, the largest in the country by volume of water. It was built in the late 1960s and 1970s, and thirteen villages were cleared and flooded to make room for it. A church tower near the shore by Vlachy is what remains of the village of Liptovská Mara itself.

On a hill above the north shore lies Havránok, the excavated site of a Celtic hillfort with a reconstructed open-air museum. The Low and Western Tatras rise on either side of the basin. When rain moves in, the mountains vanish behind cloud and the wide water turns grey, broken by wind and falling drops.
