The Dunajec River Gorge winds through the Pieniny mountains on the border of Slovakia and Poland, with the river itself marking the frontier. Limestone cliffs and forested slopes rise on both banks, among them the Three Crowns massif on the Polish side. National parks protect both banks.

The gorge is best known for rafting: raftsmen in traditional dress pole wooden rafts downstream from Červený Kláštor, a former monastery village on the Slovak side. A path for walkers and cyclists also follows the river. Pieniny summers bring frequent showers and storms, and in rain the river turns green-grey, cloud hangs on the cliffs and the rafts still float on under ponchos.
