Orava Castle stands on a narrow limestone rock about 112 m above the Orava River, over the village of Oravský Podzámok in northern Slovakia. It is first mentioned in 1267 and grew upward in stages, so its buildings climb from the lower courtyard to the highest part on the summit of the rock. The Thurzo family rebuilt it in the 16th century, and after a fire in 1800 it was restored. Today it houses a museum.

The castle appears in the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. Orava has a cool, damp climate, and in rain the walls darken against the cliff, mist rises from the river and the forested hills fade behind it.
